About Syntocinon Injection:

Syntocinon Injection is a recombinant hormone indicated to induce uterine contractions in pregnant women to aid in labor and delivery or to control postpartum bleeding.

Each ml of Syntocinon injection contains Oxytocin (Oxytocic synthetic) 5 IU, Chlorbutol (as preservative) 0.5% w/v, and Water for injections q.s.

Oxytocin plays a vital role in inducing labor. At the end of the pregnancy, when the head of the fetus pushing on the cervix, oxytocin release from the posterior pituitary of the mother and then travels to the uterus, where it stimulates uterine contractions. The elicited uterine contractions will then stimulate the release of increasing amounts of oxytocin and will continue until delivery.

Exogenously administered oxytocin also works in the same way on the female reproductive system during the antepartum and postpartum period to induce or improve uterine contractions.

Use of Syntocinon Injection:

Syntocinon Injection is a recombinant Oxytocin hormone that makes the muscles of the womb contract. Syntocinon is prescribed:

  • To start or help contractions during childbirth (labour)
  • To help in the management of a miscarriage
  • To prevent and control bleeding after delivery of the baby
  • During a caesarean section.

Usage direction of Syntocinon Injection:

  • Syntocinon Injection is intended for Intramuscular Injection and Intravenous infusion only.
  • The physician will advise the right dose & direction of administration as per the patient’s condition.
  • The administration should only be under hospital conditions and qualified medical supervision.
  • Please check the package leaflet or label instruction before administration.

Precaution & Related information of Syntocinon Injection:

  • It is dangerous to take this preparation except in accordance with the medical advise.
  • If hypersensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients of Syntocinon Injection consult with the physician.
  • Syntocinon Injection should not be used for prolonged periods if it fails to increase contraction or the patient has severe pre-eclamptic toxemia (high blood pressure, protein in the urine, swelling) or has severe problems with heart or blood circulation.
  • It is not intended for use in children, adolescents, or the elderly.
  • Concomitant administration of this one with other medicine is prohibited.
  • Consult with the physician during pregnancy and lactation.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Storage condition of Syntocinon Injection:

  • Store at a temperature 2-8°C.
  • Should not be allowed to freeze.
