Lactitol Monohydrate 3.33g/5ml
About Laxitol Syrup :
Each 5 ml of Laxitol syrup contains Lactitol monohydrate 3.33 gm and Benzoic acid 7.5 mg in an aqueous base q.s.
Lactitol monohydrate is an osmotic laxative - it exerts its pharmacologic effect by creating a hyperosmotic environment within the small intestine. The osmotic effect generated by lactitol draws water into the small intestine, which loosens stools and ultimately facilitates bowel movements.
Benzoic acid has antimicrobial properties that alter the structure of the fungi to suppress their ability to grow or reproduce. A patient with functional constipation has an increased level of fungi and other microorganisms, which contribute to constipation.
