Jitotofa 5 Tablet Overview:

Jitotofa 5 Tablet is used to treat moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis in adults. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes joint pain, swelling, stiffness, and long-term joint damage.

In addition to rheumatoid arthritis, Jitotofa 5 Tablet is used to manage active psoriatic arthritis, polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis in children aged 2 years and above, ankylosing spondylitis (a form of spinal arthritis that causes back pain and stiffness), and moderate to severe ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease.

Jitotofa 5 Tablet is usually recommended when one or more disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) have not been effective or are not well tolerated.

This medicine contains Tofacitinib Citrate, which works by blocking specific immune pathways responsible for chronic inflammation. This action helps reduce pain and swelling, improve mobility, and slow the progression of joint and tissue damage.

Composition:

Each film coated tablet contains- Tofacitinib Citrate Equivalent to Tofacitinib: 5 mg.

Colour: Titanium Dioxide.

Uses & Benefits of Jitotofa 5 Tablet:

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis and Psoriatic Arthritis- Effectively decreases inflammation in affected joints, providing relief from pain and reducing swelling associated with rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis- Reduces back stiffness and inflammation in ankylosing spondylitis, promoting better posture and less fatigue.
  • Ulcerative Colitis- Reduces intestinal inflammation, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal pain in patients with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis

How Jitotofa 5 Tablet Works:

Jitotofa 5 Tablet contains Tofacitinib Citrate, which belongs to a group of medicines called Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors. It works by blocking Janus kinase enzymes inside immune system cells that trigger inflammation, tissue damage, and overactive immune responses. By selectively inhibiting these enzymes, Betrecep helps reduce abnormal immune activity and inflammation in affected joints and the colon, thereby controlling symptoms and slowing disease progression.

Dosage of Jitotofa 5 Tablet:

  • Usage Direction

Administer Jitotofa 5 Tablet exactly as prescribed by your physician. Jitotofa 5 Tablet should be swallowed as a whole without crushing, chewing, or splitting it. Always complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve, unless advised otherwise by your doctor. Jitotofa 5 Tablet can be administered with or without food, though taking it at consistent times each day helps maintain stable drug levels in the bloodstream. Do not stop or change the dosage of Jitotofa 5 Tablet without consulting your doctor, as this may prevent you from achieving the desired results. If you are unsure about the method of administration of Jitotofa 5 Tablet, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

  • Missed Dose

If you missed a scheduled dose, take it as soon as possible within the same day. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and resume your regular dosing schedule. Setting daily reminders using phone alarms or medication management apps can help establish consistent dosing habits. If you frequently forget doses, discuss strategies with your healthcare provider or pharmacist to improve medication adherence.

  • Overdose

Accidental or intentional overdose of Jitotofa 5 Tablet can lead to increased risks of side effects, such as severe infections, excessive suppression of immune activity, and organ dysfunction. If overdose is suspected, seek immediate medical attention, and be prepared to inform your healthcare provider about the quantity of medicine taken.

Contraindications of Jitotofa 5 Tablet:

Jitotofa 5 Tablet should not be used by people who are allergic to Tofacitinib or any of its ingredients. It must be avoided in patients with active serious infections such as sepsis, active or untreated tuberculosis, as it can weaken the immune system. People with severe liver disease should not take this medicine unless clearly advised by a doctor. Patients with a history of cancer, blood clots, or recent heart-related clotting events need careful medical evaluation.

Precautions & Warnings of Jitotofa 5 Tablet:

Jitotofa 5 Tablet may increase the risk of serious infections such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, and shingles. Patients should be screened for latent TB before starting treatment, and any signs of infection, like fever, cough, or weakness, should be reported immediately. This medicine may raise the risk of heart attack, stroke, and blood clots, especially in patients over 50 years with cardiovascular risk factors or a smoking history. Long-term use may increase the risk of malignancy, including lymphoma and non-melanoma skin cancer, so regular medical check-ups are advised. Routine blood tests are required to monitor blood counts, liver function, and cholesterol levels. Avoid live vaccines during treatment and use caution in elderly patients.

Side Effects of Jitotofa 5 Tablet:

The most common side effects of Jitotofa 5 Tablet include upper respiratory infections (such as cold or sinus infection), headache, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, and increased blood pressure. Some patients may also experience raised cholesterol or liver enzyme levels, which usually require regular monitoring. Most of these effects are mild to moderate and improve as the body adjusts to treatment. Less commonly, serious side effects may occur, including severe or opportunistic infections (such as tuberculosis or shingles), blood clots, and changes in blood cell counts, malignancies, or allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical help if you notice symptoms like persistent fever, cough, and shortness of breath, chest pain, leg swelling, unusual bleeding, severe abdominal pain, or facial swelling. Regular follow-up helps ensure safe use.

Safety Related Concerns of Jitotofa 5 Tablet:

  • Pregnancy

Jitotofa 5 Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy unless the doctor feels the benefits clearly outweigh the risks. Human data on Tofacitinib Citrate in pregnancy is limited, and animal studies have shown potential harm to the developing baby at high doses. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 4 weeks after the last dose. If pregnancy occurs, inform your doctor immediately to review treatment options.

  • Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is not advised during treatment with Jitotofa 5 Tablet. Animal studies show Tofacitinib passes into milk, and human safety data are limited. To avoid possible risks to the infant, breastfeeding or the medicine should be discontinued after consulting a doctor.

  • Alcohol

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption while on Jitotofa 5 Tablet, as it may raise certain side effects like dizziness, and can further impair liver function.

  • Food Interactions

Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Jitotofa 5 Tablet (tofacitinib). Grapefruit blocks enzymes that help break down the medicine, causing higher drug levels in the body and increasing the risk of side effects. Dose adjustments may be needed with certain enzyme-blocking medicines.

  • Drug Interactions

Jitotofa 5 Tablet can interact with medicines that affect the immune system or liver enzymes. It should not be taken with biologic DMARDs or strong immunosuppressants like azathioprine or cyclosporine, as this increases infection risk. Some antifungal or antibiotic medicines (such as ketoconazole or fluconazole) can raise Betrecep levels and may require dose reduction, while drugs like rifampin can reduce its effect. Live vaccines should be avoided during treatment. Painkillers and methotrexate are usually safe but need medical advice.

Consult your doctor if you are taking any herbal products, supplements or other medicines while taking Jitotofa 5 Tablet. As always, please consult your doctor or healthcare provider about your specific dietary needs while on Jitotofa 5 Tablet.

  • Using Machinery & Driving

Some patients may experience headache, dizziness, or drowsiness, especially when starting this medication. Exercise caution when driving, using machinery, or performing activities requiring concentration until individual effects are known.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1. What is Jitotofa 5 Tablet used for?

A: Jitotofa 5 Tablet is used to treat moderate to severe autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ulcerative colitis by reducing inflammation and immune-mediated damage.

Q2. How long does it take for Jitotofa 5 Tablet to start working?

A: Most patients notice some improvement in symptoms within the first few weeks of taking Betrecep, but full benefits usually appear around 10-12 weeks of regular use. The medicine works faster than many traditional DMARDs, gradually reducing joint pain, swelling, and stiffness while improving mobility. Response may vary depending on disease severity, other medications, and overall health. It is important to continue taking Betrecep as prescribed, even if results are not immediate, and attend regular follow-up visits so your doctor can monitor progress and adjust treatment if needed.

Q3. Can Jitotofa 5 Tablet be taken with other arthritis medicines?

A: Yes, Jitotofa 5 Tablet can be used along with methotrexate or other non-biologic DMARDs. However, it should not be combined with biologic DMARDs or strong immunosuppressants like azathioprine or cyclosporine. Patients with moderate to severe kidney or liver problems may need a reduced dose. The duration of treatment is decided by the doctor based on response and tolerability, with regular monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Q4. Can I stop taking Jitotofa 5 Tablet if I feel better?

A: No, you should never stop Jitotofa 5 Tablet on your own, even if symptoms improve. Conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis are chronic and need ongoing treatment to prevent flare-ups and disease progression. Stopping suddenly can cause a return of symptoms, flares, or joint and gut damage. Betrecep controls inflammation but does not cure the disease. Any dose adjustment or discontinuation should be done only under your doctor’s guidance, based on disease activity, remission status, and overall treatment goals.

Q5. Can I receive vaccinations while taking Jitotofa 5 Tablet?

A: Before starting Jitotofa 5 Tablet, update all recommended vaccines according to current schedules. During treatment, live vaccines (e.g., MMR, varicella, yellow fever, live flu) must be avoided, as the medicine weakens the immune system and may allow infection. Inactivated or toxoid vaccines are generally safe, though the response may be reduced. Plan vaccinations with your doctor ahead of travel or flu season. If a live vaccine is given by mistake, contact your healthcare provider immediately for advice and monitoring.

Q6. Is it safe to undergo surgery while taking Jitotofa 5 Tablet?

A: If you need surgery while taking Jitotofa 5 Tablet, inform your surgeon and anesthesiologist in advance. Your doctor may advise temporarily stopping the medication before and after surgery to lower infection risk and support healing. The timing depends on the type of surgery, disease activity, and overall health. Never stop Betrecep without your doctor’s guidance. For elective procedures, plan carefully with your healthcare team, and for emergency surgeries, notify the medical staff immediately about your current medication.
