Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet Overview:

Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet is a combination anti-hypertensive medication primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

It contains two active ingredient- Losartan Potassium, an Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonist, and Hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic (water pill), which work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than a single medication alone. Together, they help relax or widen blood vessels to improve blood flow and help the body eliminate excess salt and water.

By controlling blood pressure, Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 also helps reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events, such as stroke and heart attack (myocardial infarction), particularly in hypertensive patients with an enlarged heart (left ventricular hypertrophy).

Composition:

Each film coated tablet contains- Losartan Potassium: 50 mg, Hydrochlorothiazide: 12.5 mg, and Excipients q.s.

Colours: Sunset Yellow & Titanium Dioxide.

Uses & Benefits of Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet:

The primary uses of Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet include:

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Effectively lowers elevated blood pressure to help prevent long-term damage to vital organs and reduce the heart's workload.
  • Prevention of Cardiovascular Morbidity: Reduces the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients who also have left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). In this condition, the heart's main pumping chamber has become enlarged.

How Does Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet Work:

Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet works through two distinct mechanisms with the combined action of its two active components to lower blood pressure effectively.

Losartan belongs to a class of medications known as Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs). It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that normally causes blood vessels to tighten. By blocking this hormone, blood vessels relax and widen, making it easier for the heart to pump blood.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic, also known as a ‘water pill.’ It acts on the kidneys to remove excess salt and water from the body through urine. This reduction in fluid volume helps lower overall blood pressure.

Dosage of Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet:

  • Usage Direction

Take Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet strictly according to your doctor’s instructions, following the prescribed dose and timing. Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet should be swallowed whole with water, without breaking, chewing, or crushing it, preferably at the same time each day. If you often forget to take your medication, consult with your doctor to re-evaluate your dosing schedule. Frequently missing doses could lead to undesired outcomes.

You can set reminders on your smartphone, keep drug organizer boxes, or use other audio-visual technologies to prevent missing a dose.

  • Overdose

Safety Related Concerns of Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet:

  • Pregnancy

The use of Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy, as it may potentially harm the developing fetus. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consult to your doctor before taking this medication.

Label Warning: Fetal Toxicity

When pregnancy is detected, discontinue the product as soon as possible. Drugs that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus.

  • Breastfeeding

It is recommended to avoid using Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet while breastfeeding. It is currently unknown whether the active ingredients, Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide, pass into breast milk or how they might affect a nursing infant. Therefore, consulting with your doctor before taking Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 is crucial to weigh the potential risks.

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking this medication. Alcohol can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effect of Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5, significantly increasing the risk of orthostatic hypotension, a sudden drop in blood pressure that occurs when standing up, which may lead to dizziness or fainting.

  • Food Interactions

You should also avoid excessive amounts of potassium-rich foods like bananas or spinach and refrain from using potassium-containing salt substitutes unless directed by a doctor, as Losartan can increase potassium levels in the blood.

Consult your healthcare provider regarding the consumption of grapefruit or grapefruit juice, as it may interfere with how your body processes the medication.

  • Drug Interactions

Some medicines may interact with Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet and affect how it works. Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, including prescription medicines, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements, to avoid possible drug interactions. These include diuretics (water tablets), potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes, other blood pressure-lowering medicines, or Aliskiren used for diabetes-related hypertension. Also inform your doctor if you are taking Lithium, NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen, steroid medicines like cortisone or prednisone, glycyrrhizin containing products, oral anti-diabetic medicines, insulin, or cholesterol-lowering medicines such as Cholestyramine.

  • Using Machinery & Driving

Jitolosa HZ 50/12.5 Tablet may cause side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, or lightheadedness. Patients should use caution and avoid driving or operating machinery until they are sure the medication does not affect their alertness.
