Jitoapix 5 Tablet Overview:

Jitoapix 5 Tablet is an oral anticoagulant used to prevent and treat serious blood clots, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) that can lead to stroke.

It contains Apixaban, a potent blood thinner that belongs to a class of drugs known as Factor Xa inhibitors. By targeting this specific clotting enzyme, the medication helps maintain smoother blood flow.

In patients with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat), blood clots can form in the heart, break off, and travel to the brain, resulting in a stroke. Jitoapix 5 mg specifically helps to reduce this risk.

Unlike older anticoagulants, Jitoapix 5 Tablet effectively prevents the formation of new clots. Additionally, alleviates the risk of blood clots recurrence and prevents the extension of an existing blood clot.

Composition:

Each film coated tablet contains- Apixaban: 5 mg and Excipients q.s.

Colours: Ferric Oxide Red & Titanium Dioxide

Uses & Benefits of Jitoapix 5 Tablet:

The uses and benefits of Jitoapix 5 Tablet includes:

  • Prevention of Stroke and Systemic Embolism - Used in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) to prevent blood clots from traveling to the brain or other organs.
  • Treatment of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) - Effectively treats blood clots that form in the deep veins, typically in the legs.
  • Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism (PE) - Manages life-threatening blood clots that have traveled to the lungs and blocked blood flow.
  • Prevention of Recurrent DVT and PE -  Provides long-term protection for patients who have previously suffered from blood clots to prevent them from returning.
  • Post-Surgical Clot Prevention - Reduces the risk of clot formation in patients recovering from recent hip or knee replacement surgeries.

How Does Jitoapix 5 Tablet Work:

Jitoapix 5 Tablet contains Apixaban, serving as a selective and reversible Factor Xa inhibitor. Factor Xa is a critical enzyme in the body's natural blood-clotting process that leads to the production of thrombin. By blocking this enzyme, the medication effectively decreases the blood’s ability to form clots. Thereby, effectively thins the blood, ensuring smoother circulation and reducing the risk of blockages in the heart, lungs, and limbs.

Dosage of Jitoapix 5 Tablet:

  • Usage Direction

Take Jitoapix 5 Tablet strictly according to your doctor’s advice, following the prescribed dose and timing. Jitoapix 5 Tablet should be swallowed whole with water without crushing, chewing, or breaking it, preferably at the same time each day. Do not stop or alter the dose of Jitoapix 5 Tablet without consulting your doctor, as this may prevent you from achieving the desired outcome. If you are unsure about the administration procedures of Jitoapix 5 mg, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.

  • Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Jitoapix 5 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. But, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the one you missed and continue following your regular dosing schedule. Do not attempt to take two doses if you have forgotten one. If you often forget to take your medication, consult with your doctor to re-evaluate your dosing schedule. Frequently missing doses could lead to undesired outcomes.

You can set reminders on your smartphone, keep drug organizer boxes, or use other audio-visual technologies to prevent missing a dose.

  • Overdose

If you accidentally take more than the prescribed dose of Jitoapix 5 Tablet, seek immediate medical attention or contact an emergency room. An overdose may significantly increase the risk of excessive bleeding.

Contraindications of Jitoapix 5 Tablet:

Do not take Jitoapix 5 Tablet if you are allergic to Apixaban or any of the other ingredients in the medicine. It is strictly contraindicated in individuals with active, clinically significant bleeding or medical conditions that carry a high risk of major hemorrhage, such as recent stomach ulcers or a history of bleeding in the brain.

Additionally, the medicine is not recommended for patients with severe liver impairment associated with clotting disorders or those with prosthetic heart valves. Because safety and efficacy have not been established in pediatric populations, its use is also contraindicated in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Precautions & Warnings of Jitoapix 5 Tablet:

Before starting treatment with Jitoapix 5 Tablet, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider of your complete medical history, particularly regarding conditions that increase bleeding risks, such as active ulcers, bleeding disorders, or uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Special care is also needed for patients over 75 years old or who weigh 60 kg or less, as these factors may require closer monitoring.

Furthermore, patients with impaired kidney function, those on dialysis, or those with a history of hepatic issues may require precise dose adjustments to ensure safety.

If you have a condition called Antiphospholipid Syndrome, or if you have any upcoming surgeries or dental work, you must inform your healthcare team. Your doctor might ask you to stop taking Jitoapix for a short time to prevent heavy bleeding during your procedure, but you should never stop taking it on your own, as this increases your risk of a stroke.

Side Effects of Jitoapix 5 Tablet:

Like all medicines, Jitoapix 5 Tablet can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Bleeding is the most common side effect, and in some cases, it becomes serious or life-threatening. These are generally manageable but still should be mentioned to your doctor, such as easy bruising, anemia, nausea, minor nosebleeds, or bleeding from the gums.

However, some serious side effects may also occur and require immediate medical attention. These include heavy menstrual bleeding, blood in urine (red or pink), bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood, or sudden dizziness or unexpected weakness.

Safety Related Concerns of Jitoapix 5 Tablet:

  • Pregnancy

The use of Jitoapix 5 Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless specifically prescribed by a specialist who has determined that the benefits clearly outweigh the potential risks.

Because this medication thins the blood, it may increase the risk of severe bleeding for both the mother and the fetus during pregnancy and particularly during labor and delivery. If you are pregnant, suspect you might be, or are planning to conceive, it is vital to consult your doctor immediately to discuss safer alternative treatments.

  • Breastfeeding

It is better to avoid the use of the Jitoapix 5 Tablet while breastfeeding, since it is unknown whether Apixaban could pass into the breast milk and affect the breastfed child. Therefore, consulting with your doctor before taking Jitoapix 5 Tablet is crucial.

  • Alcohol

It is advised to avoid or significantly limit alcohol consumption while taking Jitoapix 5 Tablet. Combining alcohol with Apixaban may increase the risk of bleeding.

  • Food Interactions

Jitoapix 5 Tablet can be taken with or without food, and there is no known food-drug interaction. Unlike some older blood thinners, there is no need to strictly limit your intake of Vitamin K-rich foods like leafy greens.

However, you should be mindful of certain foods and drinks that can change how the medicine works in your body. To keep your treatment safe, avoid consuming large amounts of grapefruit, grapefruit juices, limes, or pomelos. You should also be cautious with spices like ginger, garlic, or turmeric, as these can increase your risk of bleeding or reduce the effectiveness of medication. For the best results, maintain a steady, balanced diet and always check with your healthcare provider before starting any new herbal products or concentrated supplements.

  • Drug Interactions

Jitoapix 5 Tablet can interact with several other medications, which may either reduce its ability to prevent clots or significantly increase your risk of bleeding. It is vital to inform your doctor if you are taking common pain relievers known as NSAIDs (such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or Naproxen), as these can lead to internal bleeding when combined with a blood thinner. Similarly, taking other anticoagulants (like Enoxaparin) or antiplatelet drugs at the same time can cause dangerously high levels of thinning in the blood.

Other medications can change how your body processes Jitoapix 5 mg. Certain antifungal treatments, HIV medicines, heart or hypertensive medicine (like diltiazem), SSRIs or SNRIs, anti-seizure medications, and some antibiotics may also interact with this medicine.

Additionally, the herbal supplement St. John’s Wort should be avoided, as it can enhance the breakdown of the medicine and prevent it from working correctly.

Always inform your healthcare provider and pharmacist about all medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements, to avoid potential interactions.

  • Using Machinery & Driving

Jitoapix 5 Tablet generally has no significant impact on your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, individual reactions to medication can vary and if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react, then avoid such activities.

Storage of Jitoapix 5 Tablet:

Store below 30°C, protected from light & moisture. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.

Avoid using it after the expiry date, printed on the packaging. Dispose of expired or unused medication properly; do not throw it away casually.

Helpful Tips:

  • Engaging in regular, low-impact exercise (such as walking or swimming) can help improve circulation. However, it is vital to avoid contact sports or high-risk activities where you could fall or sustain a head injury, as these can lead to internal bleeding.
  • Always wear a medical alert bracelet or carry a "blood thinner" ID card. In an emergency, this informs medical staff that you are on an anticoagulant, which is critical for your treatment
  • Do not suddenly stop your medication unless your doctor specifically tells you to.
  • Do not share your medicine with someone else having the same symptoms as you, as the drug requires a prescription.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Q. How long do I need to take Jitoapix 5 Tablet?

A. The duration of treatment depends on why you were prescribed the medicine (e.g., to treat an existing clot or to prevent one after surgery). Do not stop taking the tablets until your doctor confirms your treatment is complete, as stopping early increases your risk of a stroke.

Q. Can I stop taking Jitoapix 5 Tablet if I feel better?

A. No. Do not stop taking Jitoapix 5 Tablet without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well or your symptoms have improved. This medicine is prescribed to help prevent serious conditions such as stroke and blood clots. Stopping it suddenly may cause your blood to clot more easily, increasing the risk of a stroke or the formation of new blood clots. Always take the medicine for the duration recommended by your healthcare provider and discontinue it only under medical supervision.

Q. What should I do if I accidentally cut myself or get a bruise?

A. Minor cuts may take longer than usual to stop bleeding, apply firm pressure with a clean cloth until it stops. If you experience a heavy fall, a hit to the head, or a bruise that is unusually large and painful, contact your doctor immediately, as this could indicate internal bleeding.

Q. Does Jitoapix 5 mg interact with grapefruit?

A. Jitoapix 5 Tablet does not have a major known interaction with grapefruit, unlike some other medications. However, because grapefruit can slightly influence how your body processes the drug, moderation is advised. To keep your blood levels consistent and safe, avoid consuming excessive amounts of grapefruit or its juice and maintain a steady diet. If you have concerns, consult your doctor before making large changes to your fruit intake.

Q. Do I need regular blood tests (INR) while taking this medicine?

A. No, unlike older blood thinners, Jitoapix 5 Tablet does not require routine "INR" monitoring or frequent blood clotting tests. The medication is designed to provide a steady and predictable effect with your standard daily dose. However, your doctor will still perform occasional blood tests to check your kidney and liver function, ensuring your body is processing the medication safely and effectively.
