About Imicrit Injection:
Imicrit Injection is a combination medication, indicated for the treatment of various susceptible bacterial infections.

Each vial contains Imipenem equivalent to anhydrous Imipenem 1g, Cilastatin Sodium equivalent to Cilastatin 1g, Sodium Bicarbonate added as a buffer.

Imipenem belongs to a class of antibacterial medicines. It prevents bacterial infections by inhibiting cell wall synthesis, which is required for the bacteria to grow and multiply.

Cilastatin is an inhibitor of the enzyme dehydropeptidase. It acts by preventing the destruction of the Imipenem from enzyme dehydropeptidase and prolongs the antibacterial effect of the Imipenem.

Use of Imicrit Injection:

Imicrit Injection is prescribed for the treatment of various susceptible bacterial infections including lower respiratory tract infections (including severe pneumonia), urinary tract infections (complicated and uncomplicated), intra-abdominal infections (including complicated infections), gynecological infections (including intra-and post-partum infections), bacterial septicemia, bone & joint infections, skin & skin structure infections (including complicated infections), endocarditis (infection of the inner lining of the heart), and polymicrobial infections caused by several types of microorganisms.

It may also be prescribed for the management of patients with low white blood cell counts, who have a fever, and for treatment of bacteremia that is associated with any of the infections mentioned above.

Usage Direction of Imicrit Injection:

  • Imicrit Injection is intended for intravenous use only, in a dose and direction as prescribed by the physician.
  • Refer pack insert for dosage, directions for use, and administration.
  • Do not skip or stop the medicine without the physician’s advice.
  • Do not use more than the prescribed quantity.

Precaution & Related information of Imicrit Injection:

  • If hypersensitive or allergic to Imicrit Injection, inform the physician immediately.
  • Serious anaphylactic reactions require immediate emergency treatment with epinephrine. Oxygen, I.V. (intravenous) steroids, and airway management, including intubation, may also be administered as indicated.
  • Discontinuation of therapy in case of antibiotic-associated colitis, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD), and pseudomembranous colitis have been reported.
  • Discontinuation of therapy with imipenem/cilastatin and the administration of specific treatment for Clostridium difficile should be considered. Medicinal products that inhibit peristalsis should not be given.
  • It is not recommended for the therapy of meningitis.
  • CNS-adverse experiences such as confusional states, myoclonic activity, and seizures have been reported during treatment with imipenem-cilastatin I.V. for injection, especially when the recommended dosages were exceeded.
  • Special awareness should be made to neurological symptoms or convulsions in children with known risk factors for seizures or on concomitant treatment with medicinal products lowering the seizures threshold.
  • Hepatic (liver) function should be closely monitored during treatment with imipenem/cilastatin due to the risk of hepatic toxicity.
  • As with other antibiotics, prolonged use of imipenem/cilastatin may result in the overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms. Repeated evaluation of the patient's condition is essential.
  • When the recommended doses were exceeded, adult patients with creatinine clearances, whether or not undergoing hemodialysis, had a higher risk of seizure activity than those without impairment of kidney function. Therefore, close adherence to the dosing guidelines for these patients is recommended.
  • If found any other complications, inform the physician immediately.
  • Solution of Imicrit Injection should not be frozen.
  • Consult with the physician during pregnancy & lactation.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Storage condition of Imicrit Injection:

The dry powder should be stored below 25°C. Protect from moisture.
