 How Clavam XR Tablet Works:

Clavam XR Tablet contains two active ingredients, Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid, that work together as a combination antibiotic to treat bacterial infections.

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic medicine, belongs to the beta-lactam class of medication, that stops the growth of infections causing bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective outer layer. While Clavulanic acid belongs to the class of medicines called ‘beta-lactamase inhibitors’ that helps amoxicillin work better. It works by blocking an enzyme called beta-lactamase, which some bacteria produce to protect themselves. Beta-lactamase can break down amoxicillin, making it ineffective, thereby allowing amoxicillin to work properly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Clavam XR Tablet:

1. What are the uses of Clavam XR Tablet?

Clavam XR is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. It helps with respiratory issues like pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinus infections, as well as urinary tract infections, ear infections, and skin infections. It can also be used for bone and joint infections, stomach infections, and to prevent infections in patients with weakened immune systems or before surgery. Additionally, it treats heart valve infections (endocarditis) and gallbladder infections (cholecystitis).

2. Can Clavam XR Tablet be used for viral infections?

No, Clavam XR is an antibiotic medicine and is effective only against bacterial infections, not viral infections. It works by inhibiting the growth of infections-causing bacteria. It will not work for the common cold, flu, or other viral infections. For viral infections, antiviral medications may be required. Always seek advice from a healthcare provider for the correct treatment based on the type of infection. Do not self-medicate.

3. How does Clavam XR Tablet work to treat bacterial infections?

Clavam XR Tablet contains Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid as its active ingredients to treat bacterial infections. Amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic, works by preventing bacteria from forming their protective outer layer, stopping their growth. On the other hand, Clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, enhances amoxicillin’s effectiveness by blocking the beta-lactamase enzyme that some bacteria produce to protect themselves.

4. Is Clavam XR Tablet safe to use during pregnancy?

Clavam XR Tablet is usually considered as safe for use during pregnancy when prescribed by a doctor. The FDA classifies it as a Category B medication, indicating that animal studies have not shown harm to the fetus, although there are limited studies involving pregnant women. It’s important to consult your doctor before using any medication during pregnancy to ensure it is suitable for your specific situation.

5. Why it is important to complete the course of Clavam XR Tablet?

Depending on your condition, the treatment should last 7-14 days. It is essential to complete the full course of Clavam XR Tablet, even if you start to feel better, for several important reasons:

Stopping the medication in between treatments may leave some bacteria alive, and those bacteria may multiply, causing the infection to return.

Incomplete courses of antibiotics (Clavam XR Tablet) can lead to bacteria becoming resistant, which are difficult to treat and can spread.

Completing the full course of Clavam XR Tablet ensures all harmful bacteria are killed, preventing stronger strains from developing.

6. How many times a day I should take Clavam XR Tablet?

The exact dose of Clavam XR Tablet will depend on the severity of your infection, as prescribed by your doctor. Typically, it is taken every 8 hours (3 times a day) or every 12 hours (2 times a day). Always follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dosage and frequency. This ensures the medication is effective in treating your infection.

7. Can I take Clavam XR Tablet together with other medications?

Before taking Clavam XR Tablet, it is important to consult your doctor if you are taking other medications, such as blood thinners (e.g., Warfarin), or antacids. In some cases, it can make birth control pills less effective. So informing your doctor about any other drugs you're taking is crucial.
